The UNECE region covers more than 47 million square kilometres. Its member States include the countries of Europe, but also countries in North America (Canada and United States), Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and Western Asia (Israel) (see map).

Introduction. The UNECE Working Party on Transport Statistics (WP. 6) is an intergovernmental body dealing with the development of appropriate methodologies and terminology for the harmonization of statistics as well as the collection of data from member States and the dissemination of these data.

Its major aim is to promote pan-European economic integration. To do so, UNECE brings together 56 countries located in the European Union, non-EU Western and Eastern Europe, South-East Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and North America.

Put simply, it refers to the movement of people and goods via roadways through trucks, lorries, motorbikes and other vehicles. Road transport is used prominently in India across B2C and B2B logistics making it vital to maintain an efficient road transportation network for supply chain and logistics operations.
